“Wild About Learning”

Dear Parents and Students,

The fourth nine weeks is here already…can you believe it?!  STAAR is behind us, and summer is just around the corner!

We will have an Intense Remediation Day on Wednesday, April 11th and, finally, on April 26th, 5th graders will take the science STAAR test.  We have our annual Natural Bridge Caverns field trip scheduled for April 27, so students need to be on their best behavior, as codes must be kept to a mere 6.  Our students at Ricardo are among the finest anywhere so, while standards and expectations are high, students are to understand they are achievable.

Please encourage your children to continue to come to school prepared, willing, and ready to work hard.  Now more than ever is the time to remain focused and dedicated.

My conference period is from 8:45 – 9:30 Monday through Friday.  You can contact me at 592-6465 or send me an e-mail at amorales@ricardoisd.us.  Remember, collaboration between the home and the school is essential for ensuring your child’s academic growth and success.

Sincerely,

A. Morales

Understanding the Research Process

Students select a topic for research, and formulate open-ended questions. Students then develop a research plan for answering their questions, gather sources, and draw conclusions. Students take that information and write a research essay that is organized with a topic sentence and supporting details. Student then present the research essay to peers. Students use the research process to make inferences, summarize, and provide textual evidence. Students continue to use word study strategies involving Greek and Latin root words and affixes, analogies, and vocabulary in context.

--The American colonies declared independence from Britain in July 1776.

--The contributions of a wide variety of people helped the Continental Army win important battles.

--With help from France and Spain, the Continental Army won the American Revolution.

Project: Students will be researching to identify the contributions of significant individuals during the period of the American Revolution.  They will write a report on their findings and create “dolls” to represent their historical figures.
