Mrs. Garrett

We are now in the 4th 9 weeks of the year.

Tutoring is available after school from 3:25 to 4:00 (unless I have a meeting or duty)on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

Make transportation arrangements prior to staying.

Late bus for students residing in district is available (it leaves school about 4:45)

Students not picked up by 4:10 will be placed in After School Care and charges will occur if ride home is not here on time.

This is for those students that will be picked up by parent, guardian, or other person.

STAAR has arrived!  Let’s show them how great Ricardo students are!

U.I.L Competition was held on January 27-28 this year, KUDOS to all the students who participated and placed for the Ricardo Team!  End of the year trip for participants is scheduled for May 23, 2012.  Remember you must pass the 3rd 9 weeks and be passing at progress report time for the 4th 9 weeks as well.

Progress Slips for my class will go home with students on Fridays this year.  They need to be signed and returned on Monday of each week.  Students are responsible for getting corrections done within the 14 day limit from due date posted on the grade slip.

Progress Slips will continue to go out each week on Friday!

(All signed slips will be rewarded with a free 100 as daily grade if returned by Tuesday of following week only)

******* ATTENTION*******

We are having more students wearing pants with torn legs.  If skin can be seen then they are not appropriate for school.  They MUST be patched with an iron on patch from inside/outside of a permanent fabric patch.  IT is NOT acceptable to put duct tape or masking tape over the holes for the day.  Students will be sent to the office if they have torn clothing!   We realize the styles are available, but patches must be placed on them or they cannot be worn to school!

DRESS CODE and BEHAVIOR VIOLATIONS:

Dress code and gum/candy have become an issue with some students already this year.  Students have been given four weeks to learn the rules and comply with them, if they are not in dress code or are caught eating candy or chewing gum they will be assigned detention with the 6th grade team for 30 minutes after school.  The most common dress code issues are listed below:

Shirts untucked

Torn clothing that is allowing skin to be seen

Sagging pants

Low-cut tops on girls: shirts must cover the collar bone

Jerseys being worn and not tucked in on pep rally days (knotting them on side is not acceptable)

Sleeves of tops must be down and not rolled or tied up on girl's clothing

Remember to get homework folders signed over the weekend, as I will be checking folders the first day of the week.  If folder is not signed, students will be assigned lunch detention.

All Classes:

All textbook letters have been returned, so each student may now take home the book assigned to them.  Books must remain covered at ALL times according to Texas law.  It is very important that students remember to bring the book back the next day, as I do not have extra books in the room.

Homework will be assigned on Mondays and will be due on Thursdays at the beginning of the class period.  If it is turned in at the end of the period or later in the day, it will be counted as late work.  Students who do not turn in homework on Thursday will be placed in HALT  (homework help) during Friday’s lunch period.

6th Grade:

We will be focusing the fourth 9 weeks on the continents of Asia and then Australia.    We have been busy learning the political boundaries for the countries and physical features located on these two continents.

I will be available for tutoring on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday until school ends in June.

7th Grade:

We have finished up the Texas revolution and Texas becoming its own nation.  We will be working out of Chapters 15-17 for the next couple of weeks.   This week we will look at frontier life and the new immigrants coming into Texas from Europe and the United States.  We will continue with the Civil War and then move on to the growth of the state of texas, in relation to other states in the United States of America.  We will finish up this section with Manifest Destiny and Reconstruction of the united states following the Civil war.  We will them move into the 20th century and look at the world wars.
