February 20-March 23,
2012
We have been reading Shipwrecked on Padre Island. The novel is historical fiction and is broken up into two parts: the shipwrecks in 1554 and modern day. We have finished the first half and will read the second half over the next few weeks. We will culminate this unit of study with a field trip to eh Corpus Christi museum to view the artifacts on display from the actual shipwrecks we read about. Our field trip is scheduled for Friday, March 9.
As we read our novels, we will continue to focus on the elements of a short story, from plot, to setting, to characters, and all the things in between.
In addition to
regular homework, all students should be reading for 20-30 minutes each
evening, as time allows.
