Go Yellowjackets!

Ricardo Independent School District is a small rural district located less than 150 miles north of the Mexican border that was founded in the early 1900’s.  At the time of its founding, it served widely scattered farm children and children whose parents worked along the railroad.  As time passed, a larger town with a population of almost 30,000 developed to our north, and Ricardo continues to serve a largely rural community.   Over the last 100 years we have grown from a small unsophisticated district to a district serving a PK-8 student population of over 700.  We are a 100% Google Apps For Education district incorporating 467 chrome devices which include 18 carts averaging 20-25 chromebooks per cart and an elementary computer lab equipped with 26 chromebases.  Majority of our classrooms have four student desktop computers, a teacher laptop, an interactive whiteboard, and a document camera. Our teachers collaboratively educate our students using technology through Google apps, instructional websites, and computer software. We have an award winning athletic program, and support strong UIL and Destination Imagination teams.  Our students feed into several area high schools;  Riviera, H.M. King, Bishop, and Santa Gertrudis Academy.

The recent school tragedies reminds us all of the importance of safety
and security in schools. We want to assure our families that our
district and schools have an updated emergency operations plan
that has been created/reviewed in collaboration with local
law enforcement.  The members of our staff have been trained
in the specifics of this plan, and we conduct periodic drills to ensure
that everyone knows their role during a crisis.  Our district’s schools
also have specific protocols for entry to our schools, all parents and
visitors must sign in at the campus office to receive a visitor’s badge between 7:50am and 3:25pm.  We appreciate the understanding of our parents and visitors as we enforce these protocols for the safety of our children.  The safety of our students remains our highest priority.
